Description
The Financial Accounting & Reporting intern position will be responsible for supporting the accounting activities of Georgia Power. The position will primarily have responsibility for the monthly closing of the Company’s financial records and timely and accurate preparation of documents to support internal and external reporting objectives, including SEC 10-K, FERC Forms 1 and 3-Q. This position will report to Georgia Power’s Financial Accounting & Reporting Manager and will work closely with the Accounting and Reporting teams, other support groups within Georgia Power and the Southern Company system, as well as with internal and external auditors.
Major Job Responsibilities
Ensure timely and accurate preparation of journals in order to ensure timely month end closing and integrity of financials.
Complete account reconciliations by scheduled due date and ensure adequate supporting documentation is attached to the reconciliation.
Prepare assigned sections of required external reports, which include SEC 10-K, FERC Forms 1 and 3Q.
Ensures compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley regulations, including compilation of control evidence.
Assist with daily cash processes and preparation of operating report schedules.
Assists with financial audits of Georgia Power and provides expertise in technical accounting and reporting matters to internal and external auditors.
Promotes innovation, improves repetitive processes, and creates efficiencies in a dynamic workflow environment.
Assist with other ad hoc assignments.
Job Requirements
Basic Requirements
Enrolled in Accounting program or equivalent
General knowledge of applying U.S. GAAP
