Alfa Art Gallery is seeking a Curatorial Intern to support the production of new commissions, exhibitions, and both electronic and printed publications. The intern will also assist with curatorial research and contribute to the planning and execution of current and upcoming program initiatives. This position is an academic‑credit internship, designed to provide hands‑on curatorial experience within a professional nonprofit gallery setting.
The ideal candidate is a highly motivated and articulate individual with strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent organizational abilities, efficient time management, and the capacity to handle multiple projects simultaneously. A professional phone manner, a sense of humor, and a genuine interest in contemporary art and its concepts are essential.
General Responsibilities
• Develop press releases, curatorial texts, and other written materials
• Collaborate with the Photography/Video Production intern to plan and conduct professional artist interviews
• Research and recommend new artists, exhibition concepts, and curatorial directions
• Assist in coordinating special events, including opening receptions, Public Programs, and class visits
• Work with the Development Intern on grant writing and sponsorship outreach
• Help identify and book performers for multidisciplinary events (musicians, poets, dancers, actors, comedians, etc.)
• Promote the gallery’s facilities rental program and support related outreach
Requirements
• Strong oral, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to manage time efficiently and balance multiple tasks
• Knowledge of classical and contemporary art, including key concepts and movements
• Proficiency in research, bibliography creation, and professional correspondence
• Solid computer skills, especially Microsoft Office; working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop is a plus
