The Special Education Teaching Assistant supports the classroom teacher in providing a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment for students with diverse learning needs. This role involves assisting with daily instruction, implementing individualized supports, and helping students develop academic, social, and functional skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the teacher with classroom instruction and daily routines
- Support students with academic tasks and individualized goals
- Help manage classroom behavior using consistent strategies
- Provide one-on-one or small group support as needed
- Take initiative in supporting classroom needs and student engagement without constant direction
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment
- Assist with personal care (if required) such as toileting or feeding
- Prepare materials and support daily classroom operations
- Communicate effectively with teachers and staff regarding student progress
Qualifications:
- High school diploma required; experience in special education preferred
- Patience, reliability, and a strong willingness to learn
- Ability to follow direction and work as part of a team
- Experience working with children or individuals with special needs is a plus
